SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Is Utah ready to elect a black woman to Congress?

Well, Utah may find out very soon.

Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love tells ABC 4 that she's now "strongly considering" running for Utah's new Congressional seat.

Mia Love is the daughter of Haitian immigrants who came to America with more dreams than dollars.

Love was first a city councilwoman, then a mayor.

And now, she's eyeing a new challenge.

Mia love made history when she became Utah's first black female mayor.

But now, there may be more to her story.

ABC 4 News: "You're running aren't you?

Mayor Mia Love: “I am strongly considering a run for the U.S. House"

Love has already been to Washington D.C., met with Republican strategists there and says she's pleased with her fund-raising efforts.

But she may not have raised as much as State Representative Carl Wimmer.

Wimmer says he has raised more than $100,000 dollars.

Some consider Wimmer to be the front-runner in Utah's new 4th Congressional District.

So we asked Love if she was intimidated by him.

ABC 4 News: "Are you afraid of Carl Wimmer?”

Love: “Oh gosh. I am not afraid of anyone."

Wimmer certainly has his strong supporters.

But Utah county sources tell ABC 4 that Wimmer is not beloved by all.

And Love knows - if she wins - it would big news locally and nationally.

ABC 4 News: "Do you think Carl Wimmer is afraid of you?”

Love: “I don't know. But I think anyone, if they're running against me, I think anyone should be a little concerned."

Now, as for announcing her intentions, Love says she will wait until the legislature finishes drawing a new Congressional map.

As for Carl Wimmer, he tells ABC 4 that he encourages everyone to run who is interested.

You can see the entire interview with Mayor Love this Sunday morning at 7:30, right here on ABC 4.

We keep hearing Mia speak of all her accomplishments, I live in Saratoga Springs, and I'm at a loss as to what she is referring to. Saratoga Springs city administration has been, and is a disaster. The lack of integrity that this administration operates from is appalling. Please Miss Love, Run, This city deserves a Mayor who operates in a place of reality, you certainly don't fit this description. The citizens of this great state won't be so naive...

mcjolly: It's easy to let others do the hard work of cutting spending, and then voting for those cuts in the state legislature like Carl Wimmer has done. Mia, on the other hand, actually has done millions of dollars of cutting (in a small city) all by herself. So when it comes to experience with limited government, Mia appears to be the more experienced of the two candidates.

So has Mayor Love, she has a solid record on limited government, plus she could actually be effective in DC. I still need to hear her speak but I keep hearing great things.

I like both Wimmer and Love, but Wimmer has already been tested in the state house and has proven to be a friend of liberty.
