SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A death row inmate's conviction and sentence will stand after the Utah Supreme Court upheld a lower court's ruling to dismiss his appeal.

Douglas Carter was convicted in 1985 of the first-degree murder of Eva Olesen, 57, during a robbery at her Provo home. Olesen was stabbed 10 times and shot in the head.

Carter appealed to the Utah Supreme Court a ruling by Fourth District Court Judge Lynn W. Davis, who dismissed his petition for post-conviction relief. Carter had claimed that he received ineffective legal assistance after his initial conviction, but Davis ruled his claims were without merit.

The state Supreme Court agreed in a ruling Friday.

this scumbag and look at it like this at least he won't die in the same cruel fashion as the innocent defenseless woman he killed begging for mercy when he didn't show her any
