SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Salt Lake County Council will begin reviewing a redistricting proposal from the independent commission tasked with redrawing election maps.

Council members are scheduled to discuss the plan during its meeting Tuesday morning at the County Government Center.

The Independent Salt Lake County Redistricting Commission developed three possible plans for county council districts.

Commissioners say in their report they favor a proposed map that balances geographic divisions and keeps a majority of cities within one district.

The commission is also charged with drafting new school board member district boundaries for the Jordan, Granite, and Canyons school districts.

The seven-person commission included three Democrats, three Republicans and one independent member.
