SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - After three weeks of discussions, the Salt Lake County Council has given tentative approval to most of outgoing Mayor Peter Corroon's 2013 budget proposal.

Corroon has been pushing for a nearly 18 percent property tax increase, something he said was needed to avoid layoffs.

The council approved a 16.2 percent property tax increase, designed in part to fund rehabilitation and renovation of aging county facilities and partial restoration of lost salary and benefits for county employees.
