SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An estimated 16,000 Utah residents who lost their homes to foreclosure between 2008 and 2011 may be able to apply for money in a national mortgage settlement.

The Utah Attorney General's office says one-page claim forms will be mailed out starting this week. They must be returned by Jan. 18.

The settlement finalized this spring designates $1.5 billion for two million borrowers nationwide who had their mortgages serviced by Ally/GMAC, Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo.

About 16,000 Utahns qualify for some of the money.

The individual payout will depend on how many people participate in the settlement.

Attorney General Mark Shurleff says participating doesn't disqualify people from pursuing additional money.
