SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - 12 months ago City Creek Center opened in downtown Salt Lake City and to for their first birthday, the shopping center talked about their success and the good things happening downtown.
Linda Wardell, City Creek Center General Manager said, "We had 16.2 million shopper visits in our first year of operations."
That number was repeated over and over today.
Jason Mathis, Executive Director Downtown Alliance, said, "16 million people coming to downtown Salt Lake City."
With more people downtown, good things are happening for everyone.
According to the Salt Lake City mayor's office, 600 new business licenses have been issued in the city's central business district since 2010.
Mathis said, "City Creek is part of a larger system, it isn't all because of City Creek but City Creek has been an influence for good downtown."
The stores in City Creek are reporting good things too.
For example, the Cheese Cake Factory served more than half a million guests and sold more than 200,000 slices of cheesecake, in this first year.
Most stores in City Creek Center report better sales this year than they projected going into opening day.
These are all good things, but nobody is saying this is enough.
Mathis said, "There is a list a mile long of things we have to do, but today is a good day for downtown."
