PUYALLUP, Washington (ABC 4 News) - In his home Friday morning, Chuck Cox watched the police news conference from Ely, Nevada, on abc4.com.
In talking about it afterwards, he was philosophical.
Chuck said, "I told the two news crews that were looking over my shoulder as we were watching the live feed -- thank you for that by the way -- and I'm going, they didn't say anything!"
So, in once sense he was disappointed. West Valley police said nothing about why they were searching in Ely. It was a news conference with no news.
"I was expecting more of a revelation that what we got there."
Still, Chuck believes that anything that refocuses attention on the disappearance of his daughter Susan is ultimately a good thing.
"I felt good about it because it's an area we hadn't looked at before because we had no idea there was anything there. I don't believe it was strictly a 'dog and pony' show. I think the police have a valid reason -- some kind of tip they'd got -- that they had to look at that area. There had to be something, some credible evidence, that brought them out there."
What's more, he said West Valley police demonstrated something that he's known all along: Far from a forgotten cold case, 20-months later police remain active in the search for his missing daughter. Susan Powell has not been forgotten.
