SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The holiday shopping season is not over yet. The day after Christmas hopes to add a bang to the end of the season.

Across the country numbers for shopping look to have increased about the same as last year. That's a major disappointment, retailers were hoping a four percent growth. Despite the numbers being low across the country, Utah looks good and are hopeful the day after Christmas shopping will add even more sales.

Dee Brewer from City Creek Center explains why the days after Christmas are important for retailers, "This week is critical to our season. Returns, exchanges and self shopping."

Unlike the rest of the season, most of the day after Christmas shoppers are out and
spending cash for personal reasons: using gift cards or making exchanges and returns.

While the country looks to be down for their holiday shopping, in Salt Lake City there's a different message.

Manager Tyler Moncur over at Target told ABC4, "It was a great season for us, we did very well."

Brewer said City Creek Center exceeded expectations, "Crowds came back downtown we had great shopping and the retailers experienced success."

The only potential problem for the shopping Wednesday, the weather! People seemed to have a slow start, but were getting to their shopping destinations.
