MIDVALE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A candlelight vigil was held Sunday evening for one of the three people gunned down in a Midvale home on Tuesday. Family and friends gathered to remember Danielle Lucero. One by one they laid out candles from the house to the driveway. With some of the windows boarded up and the shades drawn, Danielle’s family believes the candles will light her way home.
Danielle’s aunt, Inez Lucero explained. “It’s kind of a belief to us that the windows need to be open so her spirit can be free, so she doesn’t stay inside.”
Danielle Lucero was shot to death Tuesday along with two others, Omar Jarman and Shontay Young. 25-year-old David Fresquez is now behind bars in connection to their deaths.
“It’s sad what has happened,” said Lucero. “It’s really tragic what drugs are doing to our young people.”
Danielle’s friends and family say while she made some bad choices, she wasn’t a bad person and didn’t deserve to die.
Danielle’s childhood friend Wayne Gavin told ABC 4 News, “The person portrayed on TV, that’s not who she was. She was an amazing individual. She helped me and challenged me to get my life together and I wish I could have done the same thing for her.”
The young mother of three girls will be laid to rest next week. One of her suspected murderers is behind bars; the other is still on the loose.
“That man doesn’t know what he took out of this world,” said Gavin. “He took an amazing woman out of this world, an amazing mother, daughter and my best friend.”
A viewing will be held for Danielle Lucero Wednesday and a funeral Thursday. Stay with ABC 4 News for more details.
