SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) - Campaign finance will now be a topic of debate in this years Salt Lake County Mayoral race.
Today, September 18th, the Salt Lake County Democratic Party has filed a formal complaint with the County Clerk's office. The complaint accused candidate Mark Crockett of violating campaign finance laws. Three donors exceeding the $6,000 cap for single donors was the focus of the complaint.
The latest violations add to a growing list of campaign finance problems for Crockett, according to the complaint.
In Crockett's 2004 bid for Salt Lake County Council he failed to file financial disclosure forms but was allowed to remain in the race because the District Attorney's Office determined the campaign finance laws were unclear.
In his 2006 failed reelection campaign Crockett received $2,000 over the $6,000 limit from the Salt Lake County Republican Party. The District Attorney's Office required Crockett to refund those monies.
In May of this year, a complaint was filed against Crockett's campaign for vague, non-specific expenditure disclosures, but was later dismissed after an investigation by the County Clerk's Office and the District Attorney's Office.
