SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A nationwide boycott of Starbucks stores and its products was launched Tuesday by an anti-gun group in an effort to change the company's policy on guns.

The National Gun Victims Action Council said Tuesday it was boycotting the popular coffee chain in a movement called "Brews not Bullets." The group said it would not by any products from the chain until they eliminate the risk of guns in public places.

Starbucks currently allows guns and assault weapons to be openly carried and concealed in its stores in states where the law permits, according to a company spokesperson. The company said it is only following the laws of each state in the U.S.

"Starbucks allowing guns to be carried in thousands of their stores significantly increases everyone’s risk of being a victim of gun violence,” says Elliot Fineman, CEO of the NGAC.

However, gun supporters don't understand the boycott. Janalee Tobias, founder of Women Against Gun Control, said banning guns would not eliminate crime.

"We all want to see crime go down," Tobias said. "If these anti-gun groups want to have an impact on crime they should go after the people who don't obey the law."

Being Starbucks-free for 10 days now and getting used to it. The added benefit- about $80 saved. Could not do this for any other cause- but as a Mom of two preschoolers, this is the one of greatest importance for me.

Maybe with some REAL reporting, you may have actually found the story. The story of tens of thousands of supporters of firearms rights and the basic human right to self-defense versus a tiny group of Joyce Foundation funded bigots who sat on their duffs and sent out press releases about a movement with no followers to be published by credulous, lazy news outlets who didn't lift a finger to see if the story was even relevant. If you wonder why trust in the mainstream media is dwindling just look at the this shoddy piece of propaganda and this outlet's lack of effort, ethics, and integrity for the answers.

Assault weapons? Ask anyone you know who has military training (please don't rely of the ever-more-frequent poseurs) what an assault weapon is. The fact is that it is unlawful for any allegedly free citizen of these united States to possess, use, or own an assault weapon unless and until they have been cleared by the ATF - and paid a $200.00 "tax". Further, you do realize that those who carry assault weapons without being so cleared are criminals who don't obey the law anyway? And cops. But then, that's redundant in a lot of cases . . . Please, if you can't get your facts, descriptison and terms correct, don't report.

This "boycott" is a failure. No one has heard of it and no one is actually boycotting Starbucks. Meanwhile, the "buycott" of gun rights supporters has swamped Starbucks with customers.

If the OGDEN Police have their way,,all it takes for you to lose the ability to carry ,,is for someone to plant a joint in your car or on your person.THEN they have the RIGHT TO KILL YOU.& THAT GOLF CLUB OF YOURS WON'T BE any help.

Another example of how stupid this state is. I am going to open carry and go get a coffee now.

Thank you Starbucks. For every misguided Rosie, there will be 3 new patrons. Someone is certainly sad and sick, but she says she will never come to Starbucks again. So thanks to you too, Rosie.

All those guns in all those Starbucks locations yesterday and not a single person was harmed. Hmm... maybe all those guns are defective? :) Or more likely, the opponents to CCW are both wrong and hysterical.

Went by with my wife last night and bought some coffee. Talked to barista about the boycott, he hadn't heard anything about it and business was good as usual. We had a conversation about RKBA, which he apparently supports. Oh, and I was packing my Glock.
