SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Los Angeles man is serving three months at Davis County jail after pleading guilty to bigamy.

Court records show Victor DeiWayne Hayes had two wives in California when he exchanged vows in January 2001 with a woman in Layton.

Hayes began his sentence Aug. 28. He was fined $990 in 2nd District Court and ordered to pay $830 in restitution to the Utah woman, Serah Harrison.

Harrison tells the Standard-Examiner of Ogden she was just a newlywed last year when she began to suspect Hayes was keeping separate lives with other women and tipped Layton police.

Hayes is not a Mormon - the church renounced polygamy more than a century ago and Utah makes it a felony to be married more than once at the same time.
