Armored backpacks and a rush on guns after Conn.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah company is reporting a spike in sales of armored backpacks designed to protect students in the event of a school shooting.

At Amendment II in Salt Lake City, sales of children's backpacks and armored inserts are up 300 percent.

The company began making the backpack inserts about six months ago and also sells child-sized bulletproof vests.

Amendment II was founded about two years ago using a new lightweight nanotechnology to make body armor products for soldiers and law enforcement less cumbersome.

Co-owner Derek Williams says their armor "can help children just as it can help soldiers."
