FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) - A group of animal rights activists is calling for a boycott of the Lagoon amusement park in Farmington, claiming it mistreats animals.
The group, organized under the name of Lagoonsucks.com, contends the park has failed to meet minimal federal standards for the care of animals in its Wild Kingdom.
Ogden's Standard-Examiner reports the allegations include providing poor veterinary care, filthy enclosures, inadequately trained employees and too little space.
Lagoon spokesman Dick Andrew denies any abuse is taking place. He says Lagoon has four veterinarians who regularly monitor the animals, and staff members who deal with the animals every day of the year.
Lagoon provides sanctuary for all sorts of rescued animals, including Siberian tigers, Canadian lynx, zebras, elk, camels, deer, miniature donkeys and kangaroos.
