SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Alta High School was on lockdown today, but it was just a drill. The school, Canyons School District and police officers trained to be ready for the worst case scenario.

Once the drills started; inside the school and out students, school employees and police officers reacted as if there was somebody with a gun inside the school.

The goal of entire drill is to see what they do right and what they do wrong. Lt. Justin Chapman, from the Sandy Police Department, said; "Today we came together and see what works best in a situation like this."

While the school prepares, what can parents do to prevent this reaction to even be necessary?

Lt. Chapman said, "Parents should get with the school counselor, talk to principal, talk to officer and give us a heads up there are opportunities to prevent these situations."
