SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The American Civil Liberties Union is suing Salt Lake-area school and police officials over a gang sweep it says only rounded up minorities.

ACLU's complaint filed Thursday points to a December 2010 incident in which 14 to 40 minority students at West High School were allegedly interrogated, searched, and forced to pose for photos holding signs identifying them as gang members.

The complaint was filed by Kevin Winston on behalf of his son, Kaleb, who was detained in the sweep as a 14-year-old freshman.

The suit says Kaleb Winston, who is African American, is not involved in a gang and was humiliated by the incident.

Defendants include the Salt Lake City school district and police department.

District spokesman Jason Olsen says the district and school decline comment on the suit.
