WANSHIP, Utah (ABC 4 News) – People living in Wanship are relieved a wildfire did not destroy their homes.

A wildfire broke out Wednesday afternoon on the mountainside, forcing evacuations of about 15 homes.

People packed up and left except for Dot Young. The 82-year-old woman refused to leave her home.

“I wasn’t alarmed,” Young said. “The winds were mild today.”

Young said she has lived through three previous fires on the mountain. She packed mementos and irreplaceable belongs and put them in her car.

She was thankful no properties were damaged today.

Evacuations were lifted approximately four hours after the fire sparked.

Fire investigators believe the blaze was human caused. It destroyed 65 acres of mountain grass.
