SOUTH JORDAN (ABC 4 News) - Broken glass covered the ground of the Jerry Seiner dealership in South Jordan after a total of 52 trucks and SUVs were burglarized early Sunday morning, causing over $250,000 in damage.
Surveillance cameras showed two car thieves entering the north gate of the car lot early Sunday morning around 12:30 a.m. in a dark SUV. A series of vehicles including Yukons, Yukon Denalis, Yukon Denali XLs and and Yukon Sierra Pickups had their windows bashed in. Although, it wasn't so much the models they were after, but the radio and navigation units inside the vehicles. The suspects remained on the property until about 2 a.m.
Damage to each car is estimated to be between $4,000 and $5,000.
Break-ins occurred on both the east and west side of the dealership. General sales manager Jeff Schneiter tells ABC4 that he's never seen a break-in this big.
"Nothing to this magnitude...and we've certainly never had anything like this here," he said.
The dealership will try to repair the vehicles and return them to the lot as soon as possible. However, it all depends on the availability of the parts and that could take awhile, which in turn, could hurt business.
"To have to replace this kind of equipment on 52 units...it's a lot," said Schneiter. "It's going to take us a little while to recover from it."
If you have any information on this crime you're asked to call South Jordan police.
