It was lack of education that got many inmates into prison in the first place. Congratulations are in order for those who EARNED diplomas. Recidivism is way too high, and knowledge of how the world works and some marketable skills will only help these inmates stay out out of trouble. If it's too difficult to be compassionate for those whose choices landed them in prison, at least know that it will save the state a lot of money if they don't return.

The purpose of a prison is not to house criminals, but it is correction facility. If they are able to get a degree or diploma, they are correcting their behavior. They are being rehabilitated to live in society again. I agree certain inmates should not have that option. A prison is a place where these individuals should be deprived of a range of personal freedoms.

Why does our prison system give them a education? I think it is wrong most of them had their chance, and blew it!
