SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - 2010 was a record-breaking year for adoptions at Salt Lake County Animal Services. The shelter cared for about 10,500 lost and abandoned pets.
In 2010 there were 1,623 cats adopted out to new homes. In 2009 there were 1,119 cats adopted out. That's a 62% increase year-to-year.
In 2010 there were 1,217 dogs adopted out. In 2009 there were 750 dogs adopted out. That's a 45% increase year-to-year.
There are more dogs and cats right now looking for a new home. And, cats are always free if they are four months or older. All adoptions include sterilization, microchip, vaccinations and a bag of food.
