SANTAQUIN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Two teenagers have been arrested for arson following a fire at a Latter Day Saint church in Santaquin.
The Santaquin Police Department tells ABC 4 News that they have arrested two juveniles, age 17 and 16 for the fire on Thursday morning. The names of the teens have not been released.
The teens admitted to police that they entered through a window and broke into offices searching for money. They told police that they stole seven dollars from one desk located inside of the church.
The teenagers were arrested for burglary, theft and aggravated arson.
The meetinghouse for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is located on 200 East 100 South.
Police say there was extensive damage to the interior of the building, as detectives found "multiple" points of combustion. The church sustained damages in the range of one and a half to two million dollars.
The Santaquin 12th Ward will meet in the Santaquin Stake Center for at least six months while their church meeting house is repaired.
The other two wards which meet in the damaged building will meet in other places, but those locations have not been announced.
