FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) - Prosecutors have filed criminal charges against a 26-year-old woman whose baby boy was found dead in the trunk of her car a year ago in Davis County. The county attorney's office filed a third-degree felony charge of desecration of a body against Stephanie Hulmston on Friday in district court in Farmington. Hulmston is accused of concealing the dead baby in an ice chest, and of calling her boyfriend to help her dispose of it down a manhole. Prosecutors say they originally considered murder charges, but whether the baby was born alive or dead.
State law requires officials to be notified of unattended deaths, and prohibits bodies from being moved or desecrated. It also gives mothers 10 days to notify the state of unattended births at home. --- Information from: Standard-Examiner, http://www.standard.net (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press.
