SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Rumors have been circulating about a fight at the BYU/Utah game that shook up the wife of the Utes Football Coach Kyle Whittingham. ABC 4 has obtained some disturbing photos that show what happened during the scuffle.
A very reliable source is confirming for ABC 4 Jamie Whittingham was elbowed in the face at the BYU/Utah game over the weekend in Provo. ABC 4 has obtained pictures of the incident.
If you look at the photos, you can see why some Ute fans aren't happy.
“I think it's pretty messed up, ya know,” said Cass Hopkinson, Ute fan.
“I think that's uncalled for completely,” said Kevin Golub, Ute fan.
Somewhere during the excitement on the field, a fight near the Utes’ sideline got out of hand.
In the photos, you can see, what looks like campus security restraining an angry BYU fan. You also see that fan grabbing coach Whittingham's wife by the arm. In a second photo, you can see more of the scuffle. In the picture you’ll notice the look on the young girl's face, how frightened she is. It's unclear if these photos were taken before or after Jamie Whittingham was elbowed in the face, but Ute fans said it should've never have happened.
“It’s not right by any means,” said Trevor Stoddard, Ute fan.
“Nobody should get hit in the face especially a lady,” said Preston Montalvo, Ute fan.
Adding insult to injury, this comes off of BYU Quarterback Max Hall's comments calling Ute fans “classless”, accusing them of throwing beer at his family at last year's rivalry.
“It felt good to beat those guys. I don't like anything about them. Get them out of here,” said Hall.
Laterin a press conference Hall also said, "I hate them. I hate everything about them… I think the whole university and their fans and organization is classless."
Hall has since apologized, but some feel the incident with Whittingham's wife shows Hall's remarks weren't only hasty, they're simply inaccurate.
“We're not going around hitting women, we may be throwing beer, but we're not hitting women,” said Hopkinson.
“I guess it just puts us both on the same playing level. They're no better than we are,” said Steve Grobstein, Ute fan.
