WEST BOUNTIFUL, Utah (ABC 4 News) - One returned soldier received quite the welcome-home present, a new baby, born less than 24 hours after his arrival in Utah.

"It kind of didn't feel real," Courtney Romney, wife of Matt Romney said.

Matt and Courtney Romney have anxiously awaited the arrival of their first-born. Not sure if Matt would make it home from his 8-month tour in Afghanistan on time, the Romneys prepared for his absence.

They were pleasantly surprised when the baby arrived a last weekend, fashionably late. Courtney managed to sit and relax as much as possible, just long enough to wait for her husband. Saturday afternoon, Courtney greeted her husband on base, and by 11:00 that night they were preparing for a trip to the hospital to greet their baby girl.

“It was awesome. When I came back on the base and I saw her, she came running up to see me and she had the big basketball under her stomach. I'd seen pictures and stuff over the past few months so I knew what to expect, but it was good," Matt said.

The Romneys say that the time apart was nerve-racking and they were overjoyed that things worked out the way they had hoped. Little Blair, born at a healthy 7 lbs 2 oz, came home early Tuesday afternoon and is doing well.
