SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Police say a man fired a shotgun at Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputies from an apartment balcony at 1012 East 4700 South on Friday. The 64-year-old shooting suspect later died after officers fired back.
The incident happened at the Cottonwood Apartments in Salt Lake County. No injuries were immediately reported, but Salt Lake County Sheriff Department officials say a man began firing a gun from a third floor balcony, and when officers arrived, the man fired at them and they returned fire.
Lt. Don Hutson told ABC 4 the man became angry for some reason and shot at maintenance workers from the apartment complex.
No one was hit, but a maintenance worker called 911. When Salt Lake County sheriff’s deputies arrived, the man shot at them, but missed. Police say he fired eight to ten shots.
Deputies went to his door to get him out, but the suspect was hit on the balcony by a deputy from the outside.
Hutson said the suspect died from his injuries, and no one else was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting.
Several residents were evacuated during the incident.
