SALT LAKE CITY, (ABC 4 News) - A fire in downtown Salt Lake City Saturday night sent one person to the hospital.

The fire erupted just after 9:00 p.m. at 625 South Washington Street, which is near 300 West.

Firefighters believe it was a natural gas explosion that caused the small duplex home to catch fire.

Witnesses say they heard three explosions and saw the man inside the home run outside with his head and front side on fire. Although neighbors rushed to pat the flames off him, he was severely injured.

Firefighter hazmat crews turned off the gas meter and were able to fight the heavy flames.

No one else was home at the time.
