WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Stroke victims on the west-end of the Salt Lake Valley will no longer have to travel to Murray or Salt Lake to receive emergency stroke treatment.

That's because both Jordan Valley Medical Center and Pioneer Valley Hospital are now "Stroke Care Certified Hospitals." It gives those residents a better chance to survive a stroke and suffer less long-term damage.

"The sooner treatment is available to the patients that are suffering this condition, the better the outcome for the patients," said Emergency Physician, Dr. Bart Johansen.

The American Heart Association awarded the two hospitals the "Stroke Receiving Award of Excellence."
