MURRAY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Three people were arrested after a break-in at Cottonwood High School in Murray.
It happened around 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning after a Granite Police officer got an alarm notification and began to view the suspects via security cameras. When a Murray police officer arrived, he noticed a broken window inside one of the buildings, and encountered three men leaving through with stolen computers.
The officer chased the men on foot and apprehended two of them immediately. A third suspect was caught later by a Sandy Police canine unit in a backyard.
According to Granite Police Chief Randy Johnson, a fourth suspect who was apparently the burglary team's driver fled the scene. Officers know who the suspect is, but did not release his name. They are hoping the suspect will turn himself in.
Johnson praised the team efforts by Granite officers and security personnel working in conjunction with Murray and Sandy police departments.
Considering the recent rash of school break-ins, two of which happened at the Granite School District office, Johnson said, "We know it's a tough economic time, however, schools are not good places for potential criminals to make money. We are very well alarmed and keep a close eye on these locations."
Police were able to recover all the stolen items, most of which were computers taken from a school lab.
Jonathan Black, Pablo Fillippelli, ad Zackery Jones were taken into custody and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail where they face possible felony burglary charges.
