PARK CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) The Park City School District has extended its closure until next Monday while janitorial crews disinfect every surface inside the schools.

This type of school-wide disinfecting usually takes place during the summer months, but new CDC guidelines are requiring the district to take extra measures to ensure every surface is free from possible contamination.

heath officials say viruses normally can only live outside the host for several hours but because this is such a new strain, school officials are not taking any chances.

Janitorial staff are using a mixture of bleach and rubbing alcohol to clean the surfaces in the classroom and common areas of the schools.

District officials want the public to know that their schools are a clean and safe for the students to return next week.

Park City Superintendent Ray Timothy says, “Being cautious has paid off so far. With one confirmed case in the district and nine other probable cases among students.” Timothy added that he be believes the virus it's not spreading rapidly because of the precautions taken by the district.

Utah Department of Health officials have received testing kits that will allow suspected H-1-N-1, or swine flu, samples to be confirmed in the state instead of sending samples to the CDC.
