SALT LAKE CITY - (ABC 4 News) - There is one republican presidential candidate that President Barack Obama's campaign manager fears the most in 2012...and his name is Jon Huntsman Jr.

This week for Governor Huntsman, good things are coming in threes.

Not just the fear from the Obama campaign, but also an important phone call and a weekend spent testing the waters in a key primary state.

While no republican presidential candidate yet makes Obama's team "shake in {their} shoes...," President Obama’s campaign manager, David Plouffe, tells the U.S. News and World Report that Governor Jon Huntsman makes him, a "wee bit queasy...I think he's really out there speaking a lot of truth about the direction of the party."

To which Kirk Jowers of the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics says, "Huntsman has positioned himself in a great place right now because he is the only presidential candidate really running in the middle right now."

Huntsman spent the weekend in Michigan which is a key G.O.P. primary state.

And Jowers - who has advised three republican presidential candidates - says Huntsman has now, "...become a top five candidate for 2012."

And finally, ABC 4 noticed this item on the governor's schedule for Tuesday, May 5th at 11:15 am.

It’s a phone call with Frank Luntz.

Jowers told us this about Dr. Luntz: "Luntz is one of the premier republican pollsters and strategists."

And Jowers says eventually all serious republican presidential candidates will talk to Luntz and, perhaps, employ his services.

In fact, Jowers concludes, "There’s no question that Huntsman is, perhaps, the most talked about republican in the country right now."

Don't trust Huntsman. During the 80's he ran HH school like it was his own russain gulag. Many people lost their health, money, families and lives due to his programs. How will you face the evidence when you run in 2012 Jon?

I'm a Democrat living in Utah (painful at times) and I voted for Huntsman. He's been a great Governor. He's honest and wanting to deal with climate change, fiscally responsible (OMG a Repub that cares about social programs!). The Obama camp would be wise to keep an eye on him. If he happened to be elected I could sleep at night (unlike a McCain/Palin win!). I have to say that with the Republican party moving farther to the extremist right I doubt they would give him the time of day at this point. Too bad for them!

Don't be fooled by ANYONE endorsed by the dems, they know (think) the repubs will rally to anyone who might win an election, I don't buy it, remember how they practically hand picked Mccain? fool me once....

the only thing the Dems need to fear is THEMSELVES. if they do a good job (and its very questionable at this moment that they are), no RepubliCon will be able to overcome the damage done by Bush & Cheney & the evil-doers through out their administration. The big problem is the Dems don't have the balls to fight for the People like they should and like they said they would - examples: the bank bail out situation, the recent credit card legislation failure, the recent bankruptchy/mortgage legislation failure, the continued support of on-going illegalities re: spying on Americans, etc., etc., etc. The Dems are blowing it big time. THAT's what they need to fear: their OWN failure to provide for the People.

Fatherjoyful, for the most part the commenters on this thread have wondered why Huntsman scares the Obama camp when the Republicans don't even know who he is. That's not a rejection, that's just saying we don't know enough to have an opinion yet. But I must say that telling us he's like Obama is unlikely to garner much Republican support. Yup, Obama's smooth and he's got that swagger, but we're learning that his style masks an astonishing ineptitude.

The most talked about Republican in the country? Well that's interesting. I follow politics pretty seriously as well, and living just 30 minutes out of DC really keeps me on top of things. Since I hail from Utah my interest piques whenever anyone from there is mentioned. I've heard lots of Orrin Hatch, quite a bit of Mitt Romney, here and there about Bob Bennett ... and NOT ONE WORD about Huntsman. But hey, maybe the only places they are talking about him are Utah and Idaho.
