West Jordan (ABC4 News) - A Utah pediatrician is trying to make life a little easier for moms and dads.
She and her husband have developed two new applications for your
i-phone, combining medical advice with technology.
So how does it work?
Dr. Alissa Packer sees dozens of patients every day in her practice. But one little girl is her priority, it's her daughter Ella, born just six months ago. "As a doctor you know things, and as a mom you really know things, I don't feel like I was a great pediatrician until I became a mom because that's when you get the real life experience."
Ella was the inspiration for Dr. Packer to reach out to other parents using the i-Phone.
The first application that Dr. Packer developed is a chart that keeps track of your child's height, weight and head circumference and then plots their percentiles. It's called growing.
The second app helps parents keep track of medicines like Motrin and Tylenol. How much should you give, and how often should you give it, especially in the middle of the night?
She calls fever meds the ultimate sticky note.
"When it's two in the morning and your child is crying and you just want to help them, then last thing on your mind is what time did I give them their dose and what's the right dose."
Dr. Packer says she's hoping to help moms and dads worry a little less and enjoy their kids a little more, using a cool high tech tool. "The medical world is going so high tech every day and this is one way parents can mesh their cool devices into their medical world and their everyday life."
These two new applications work on the i-Phone and the i-Pod touch.
