SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A new, potentially controversial piece of legislation has now been unveiled on Utah's Capitol Hill.

It's called "A Declaration of the Family"

According to republican state senator, Wayne Niederhauser, it's all in the family.

His Senate Concurrent Resolution 9 proclaims that "a father, mother and a child comprise the natural elements of humankind."

Niederhause told ABC 4, "I think its good to periodically remind the public that the family is an important institution in the fabric of society."

And Niederhausder's resolution does so using very emphatic language.

Here some excerpts:

"...the sovereignty...of Utah is built upon the family unit."

"…the family is the source of all that is of benefit to humankind."

and "…the family encompasses the workmanship of the Creator..."

Just a few feet away from Senator Niederhauser in the state capitol you can find Representative Chris Johnson.

Johnson is an openly gay and pregnant legislator, now carrying a baby for two gay men.

While she was reluctant to speak publicly on this resolution, she has wondered out loud whether it is really necessary.

Senator Niederhauser realizes his resolution may attract attention.

But he also suggests that should Utah pass it, others may someday also find themselves in a family way.

“I believe that people fundamentally believe in that. I believe other states will actually see that and will also pass resolutions in their legislatures."

Now, late Friday afternoon, a moratorium was announced on all gay related legislation.

And while that could mean Niederhauser's resolution won't be voted on this year, the senator says it could well resurface next year.

Thank you for your support pinky. I knew that there would be people who would debate this and I can handle that otherwise I wouldn't have posted it on facebook and everywhere else, but when someone starts name calling I get a little upset. I mean some of my friends are up in the air with gay rights but they really think that this is crossing the line, and they will all tell you that their familys would never forgive them if they voted for gay rights so that goes to show that it's what we teach and tell our children, by me teaching my son that everyone is equal no matter the color of their skin or whom they choose to be with we are all equal, he has very strong feelings on people who talk bad about others he even gets upset if he hears someone saying something negative about aomeone on drugs, his words always are "no one is perfect we all have to learn and we need to love everyone" my son has tought me alot, I believe he is a very old soul.. and let me tell you he could have very easily went the other way, his father is very racist and judgemental.. and it's humorous that dragonfly said that by you calling her a him is like calling the cettel black, because she said that children would not choose to have two mommy's or two daddy's and for all she knows I have two mommy's or two daddy's and maybe I chose to live with them over a mom and dad....

Whatever!!!!! and by the way I'm not a he....and that's calling the pot black don't you think considering Sheila Fox called me a hater. I mean really I never used those words you did. The point is there is no reasoning with this kind of mentality. I evidently struck a nerve though as it's quite obvious. I won't be posting again....this is beyond productive at this point.

Sheila Fox when people have been beat in a debate they tend to call names hence dragonfly caling us mormon haters kinda funny huh. I learned that in my logics class last semester. We had him beat before he even started his lecture hahaha good team work huh.

One last thing, children are divine love and if we learned from them we would learn alot.. I am sure if you asked children if the would mind having gay parents they would say No, not as long as they feed me keep me warm and check for monsters under my bed and most importantly they love me unconditionally no matter who I am or what I choose to be in my life.. But we both know that not everyone will allow their children to take that survey..

SHEILA FOX - 2/6/2010 8:31 PM
Oh yes you did you said " I wish you mormon HATERS in utah would get a grip" You called me a hater and so I called you one back, how does it feel to be called a hater??? I am baptized mormon and my son who is 8 chooses not to be because they don't accept his uncles life style so yeah lets do that survey, I will even try and get the ellen show in on it. If my 8 year old son can see that this is wrong, I'm sure the children of gay parents really think this is wrong. I respect your opinion but not when you opinion bashes others or becomes name calling..

SHELIA FOX I didn't say anything about hate! I have no problems admitting when I'm wrong but in this you are wrong. Totally wrong. I am not a hater either. Do I have opinions yes I do but that doesn't mean I hate others who don't believe as me. I have a difference of opinion but that doesn't make me a hater! That is the whole problem with this whole topic, if you don't agree with same sex marriage then you are automatically a hater, well give me a break, that is not the case and while you may think it's OK would you as a child picked to have a family with two parents of the same sex? I would love to go to schools all over the nation and ask kids if you had a choice would you pick to mommy's over having a mommy and a daddy. Hey that would make a great survey and while we're at it, lets ask all grades of kids and youth....yeah I bet there aren't too many kids that would choose that for their family situation. Does that make them haters too?

SHEILA FOX - 2/6/2010 7:57 PM
Dragonfly I don't hate anyone or anything and I never brought religion into this, you did.. This is about treating human beings like human beings and about living in a free country with rights to live like anyone else. Who says that two parents of the same sex don't work as well together as two parents of the opposite sex?? and who is to say what the ideal way of life is?? Your sick of self centered gay people who think they have the right to have children, well they do have that right and they should. You are a hater not I. It is self centered haters like you that make this world an evil place.. Pinky is also dead on with everything she/he said about this subject. As they BEAT and BEAT Jesus Christ he had nothing but love in his heart for them, and as they nailed him to that cross and pushed a crown of thorns into his head he still had NOTHING but LOVE in his heart for them, so yeah I would say with that hate in your heart for gays and by judging anyone, anyone at all you are most definitely failing the test of LOVE. We ALL come from God so you are bashing your very own brothers and sisters and mine, and I don't like it! How can you look down on any human being or judge them knowing that they are all God's children...

dragonfly13 - 2/6/2010 7:52 PM
You are correct Pinky and I apologize I shouldn't of said that part of my comment. It was uncalled for...I took feelings I've developed from reading past posts and brought them into this which was wrong. My main point and question is that what is such the outrage over wanting people to acknowledge tradtional families and that they are truly the best way in which to raise children...I'm not talking about what the adults want....or that gay adults shouldn't have families....or that single parents that are trying to do right by there children shouldn't be acknowledged either, but this is about admitting that tradtional families are truly the best way in which to raise children.

Who said anything about mormons dragonfly13?

dragonfly13 - 2/6/2010 5:31 PM
I wish you Mormon haters in Utah would get a grip. I hate to say this but you are just as clueless as many members are. I live in the midwest in a town where it's predominately Christian. Most people percieve that a family is just that a mother and a father with children. 10 and even 20 years ago there wasn't a problem with that being said. You had 2 parents who lived together with the father working and the mother staying home taking care of the children. I personally don't think that saying having a mother and a father with children is a bad thing. In fact don't both of you below think that would be the ideal situation in which to raise children. I DO and religion and my opinions have nothing to do with that. Children living in a home where there are both parents and they work together is the ideal situation. Do I think that it can't be done other ways? No I don't but truly the ideal way would be to have the normal mother and father, and you can't tell me that if it was up to the kids they would pick anything different. I am tired of the self centered gay people who think it's their right to have children at all cost. I would love to know what those kids will think when their 10 years old and the other kids make fun of them because Johnny has two mommies or two daddies. It's selfish to bring young kids into the equation all in wanting to have something to love. These people need to learn to love themselves first then maybe having children wouldn't be such a deep need.....because one day Johnny is going to grow up and be a teenager and unless he's been indoctrinated real good into the gay lifestyle I imagine there will be great resentment and not a lot of love anyway. Having a traditional family is a lot of work and takes sacrifice of oneself many times for the best of others without having the added stresses that come from a gay family life and issues.
