SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - One of America's top sports writers is strongly urging his colleagues to vote for the Utes as the number one team in the country.

The Washington Post's John Feinstein thinks its time to send a message to the BCS and that Utah is that message.

Feinstein has written more than 20 books and is one of America's most respected sports reporters.

And when it comes to the undefeated Utes, Feinstein thinks it's time, “...to send a message to the frauds running the BCS, which is as rancid as anything there has ever been in sports."

In a recent Washington Post article, Feinstein urges AP voters to cast their ballots for the Utes.

He says, "There's nobody who can prove to me or to you that Utah isn't the best team because they've beaten everybody they've been asked to play."

In a one-on-one phone interview, Feinstein told ABC 4 News that the Utes should have tremendous pride in their 13-0 season and that the other top teams don't have as strong a claim on the top spot.

"The other four teams have one thing that Utah doesn't have and that's a loss."

Feinstein has long been in favor of a college football playoff system and thinks a first place votes for the Utes will help bring that about.

That's why he wants his fellow sports reporters to stand up to the BCS and say, "we're not playing your game anymore."

Feinstein also adds,  "What the Utah people should feel is - and particularly the players 'cause they're the competitors - how can we be undefeated and have somebody say to us we're not the champions?"
