Man shot and killed after police chase near Utah Lake

UTAH LAKE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Utah County Sheriff's Office says a man was shot and killed after a chase with deputies that ended near Utah Lake late Tuesday morning.

According to Utah County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Bennett, deputies were responding to an "attempt to locate" request when they located the man who was reportedly suicidal.

A chase ensued, and deputies followed the man until he crashed near Lincoln beach on Utah Lake. The man was shot and later died on scene, according to Bennett.

was the police sent to locate a person who was thought to be suicidal? how many "suiciadal" encounters with the police end up with the subject being shot to death. I think there is somthing wrong with this situation and the judgment used to " locate " some one who has not commited any crime and it escalates to a shooting.
