SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - There are now allegations of questionable real estate dealings in Summit County, reportedly worth millions of dollars.
Because of that, ABC 4 News has learned, the county now finds itself targeted in a new legislative audit.
ABC 4 News has confirmed that a full scale legislative audit is now underway.
The audit will look at Utah real estate laws in general but also, reportedly, address specific allegations about Summit County.
ABC 4 News is being told there is concern among Utah legislators about some large Summit County land deals, allegedly involving tens of millions of dollars.
Specifically, one key source says, about whether the county has taken advantage of current development laws and benefited financially?
The state's description of the audit is only one paragraph but does contain some hints.
It uses phrases like, "conflicts of interest,” "counties may partner with developers in questionable...land deals" and "manipulate properties"
ABC 4 News has learned the request for an audit was made by state senator Wayne Niederhauser, but that other legislators are also interested in the matter.
It's been requested that this audit be finished before next year's legislative session in January.
But Senator Niederhauser may not wait to see the final results of the audit.
He told ABC 4 that there WILL be revisions to the current law.
ABC 4 did call ask Summit County for a comment but our call was not returned.
