DAVIS COUNTY (ABC 4 News) The three newest members of the Davis County Sheriff's Office will bring a lot of bark... and possibly even some "bite" to the job. They'll definitely take a big bite out of crime.
The county has three new police dogs, Dax, Jaques and Mojo. They came from Europe and have gone through extensive training with their human partners. They will sniff out drugs, but can also help track down suspects and even make the arrest.
The deputies who are partners to the dogs care for them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are compensated for the care and maintenance of the dogs when they are not working.
Dax and Jaques are Belgium malinois. Mojo is a Dutch shepherd. And, each of them will wear a badge attached to their collars when they are on the job.
Already they've proven to be a benefit to the department. Mojo already shiffed out a large bag of marijuana. But the largest find was 16 grams of crack cocaine, 60 Lortab pills and other drugs.
Part of the money used to buy the dogs came from the Val A. and Edith D. Green Foundation. It donated $23,000 to the $78,000 price tag.
