PROVO, Utah (AP) - Brigham Young University officials say eliminating an institute dedicated to women's research will actually allow for more overall research money.

But some students and professors aren't so sure.

BYU recently announced a reorganization and streamlining of the women's studies program. It will take effect in January.

School spokeswoman Carri Jenkins says the costs associated with running the Women's Research Institute will now be able to go to expanding resources for other activities pertaining to women.

But student Kathryn Vaggalis says she doesn't understand the decision and has joined a Facebook group advocating for the center to be saved.
