SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - 80 Utah soldiers shipped out to Afghanistan today. Family members and friends were on hand to say goodbye to the soldiers.

The soldiers are part of the Utah National Guard's 144th Area Support Medical Company. They will spend a year in Afghanistan treating patients in clinics and provide medevac and ambulance support in a combat environment.

The unit will travel from Utah to Fort Lewis, Washtington; where they will spend 30 days in final preparations for their overseas assignment.

The unit last deployed in 2005, serving in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
