WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police were called to a backyard near 3800 South and 7100 West in West Valley around 4:00 p.m. Friday after a 17-year old boy found an assaulted young girl.

The boy told his parents, who then called 911. When Police arrived, they say the girl was crying, scared, and covered in blood.

"She had obviously been assaulted. She was conscious, but she really wasn't talking to us a whole lot," West Valley Police Lt. Dalan Taylor said.

West Valley police knew the 5-year old girl lived close to where she was found, but they still don't know how she wound-up there.

Police say the girl was taken to a hospital while they blocked-off two yards to look for evidence of an assault on the child. A neighbor says she was naked from the waist down.

Next door neighbors, the Silveras, live next door to where they say the girl lives and where police questioned family members seen leaving the home.

At last check, the police were still investigating with no additional information on what happened to the girl or if the assault was sexual.

Police say physically she's going to be okay.
