SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah's chief technology officer has resigned in the wake of the theft of hundreds of thousands of medical records.
Utah Gov. Gary Herbert says Tuesday that Stephen Fletcher, the director of Department of Technology Services, has left the department.
Fletcher was appointed to the cabinet-level post in 2005 by former Gov. Jon Huntsman.
Mark VanOrden will replace Fletcher as the department director. Previously, he was the information technology director for the Department of Workforce Services.
Herbert has also appointed Sheila Walsh-McDonald as the new Health Data Security Ombudsman.
Last month, hackers stole the personal information of about 780,000 people, including the Social Security numbers of about 280,000 of them.
