Logan police urge residents to register cell phones

LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Northern Utah police are encouraging resident to register their cell phones with area emergency dispatch systems.

Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen says reverse 911 systems used to contact residents in an emergency are effective only if residents can be reached.

Those calls have gone only to land lines, so cell numbers need to be fed into the 911 system.

The Herald Journal reports that police used reverse 911 last week in a search for a Logan man who it was feared might have been injured when his house caught fire.

The CityWatch system also was used to find a missing Hyrum child in November and to warn residents about the threat of flooding last spring.

Police say residents can register up one email address and up to six phone numbers for each home address in Cache County.
