COTTONWOOD HEIGHT, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A former music teacher at Brighton High School is under investigation by police for allegedly acting inappropriate toward a student.

According to Cottonwood Heights Police Sergeant Gary Young, the former teacher is facing charges of electronic communication harassment, pornographic material on school property and sexual solicitation.

The charges have been filed with Holladay Justice Court. Authorities are waiting for a judge to summon the former teacher to appear in court.

ABC 4 News learned the former teacher allegedly sent harassing text messages to a student and allegedly tried to solicit sexual acts.

The details of the solicitation and context of the text messages are being withheld from the media at this time.

The Canyon School district was cooperative in handing over the teacher’s school issued laptop and desktop computers. Authorities said they found pornographic images on the laptop computer, which is illegal on school property.

Brighton students said the man has a bubbly personality and his behavior toward others can be misconstrued.

“I think he was probably just joking,” Ana Perkins, a student, said. “It was probably taken the wrong way.”

As of Wednesday, the details of the victim’s age and gender had not been released.

Police believe there is only one victim, but urge others to come forward if they feel they may be a victim too.
