TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran says its oil industry has been affected by the computer virus known as "Flame," but only briefly.
The head of the Iranian military unit in charge of fighting sabotage claims the country's computer experts detected and defeated "Flame." He tells Iran's state radio that there was a single incident last month and the oil industry was the only government body seriously affected. He says all the data that was lost has been retrieved.
The official did not describe the full extent of the disruptions, but Iran was forced to cut Internet links to the country's main oil export terminal, presumably to try to contain the virus.
Internet security experts in Russia say Flame has unprecedented data-snatching capabilities and can eavesdrop on computer users. Experts see technological links between Flame and the Stuxnet virus, which was tailored to disrupt Iran's nuclear centrifuges in 2010.
