"We want them to feel like there is nothing else, but them and this loved one and there's not a worry in the world this evening," said Family Readiness Group Volunteer Coordinator Elizabeth Balinsky.
WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - ABC 4 is taking action for more than 60 Utah soldiers called to war.

The soldiers received less than a year notice, and might not get a proper send off.

It's not enough time for volunteers from the Family Readiness Group to raise enough money for a big send off.

The volunteers are asking ABC 4 to take action and help raise enough money and volunteers.

The Alpha Company of the second Battalion will leave their families behind to fight for their country this summer.

The soldiers will fly and maintain black hawk helicopters in combat as well as fly up to 11 troops at a time to dangerous missions. The soldiers know they may not come home.

Heather Brundle and soldier John soldier John Saulnier met in September.  "I tried getting him to come out with me to go have a hamburger and he blew me off," said Brundle.  Howver, they eventually connected and were engaged two months later.

The unexpected deployment pushed their marriage date up to April.  "It's been a lot of work between us and our family and friends," said Brundle.

Family Readiness Group volunteers want to throw a special evening for soldiers like John and his fiancee.

"We want them to feel like there is nothing else, but them and this loved one and there's not a worry in the world this evening," said Family Readiness Group Volunteer Coordinator Elizabeth Balinsky.

It's one special night to say goodbye. "Just being able to get more memories," said John.  "I just want to give her peace of mind, have her know that I'll be safe with what I would consider brothers and sisters," he continued.

Volunteers with the Family Readiness Group are asking for volunteer servers, caterers, money donations, and accommodations for 60 hotel rooms.

Hello, this is Elizabeth. We do know the weight these men and women carry, we do know every possible outcome, but it was maybe a bit too heavily stated about the mortality of this mission, however it is TRUE. I understand you both and feel it personally as my husband is one of these wonderful soldiers going. We are just letting the community know and giving them the chance to be part of it if they so wish. But our goal was far from trying to scare anyone or be super ominous so please be diplomatic and the basic information and message from the actual people involved. Thank you Noah for being there, you were so respectful and professional, we couldn't have asked more so a big Thank you for your help.--Elizabeth Balinski

SHIUTAHHOT, I'm sorry this story offends you. Family Readiness Group volunteers are asking for ABC 4's help because these soldiers indeed may not come back. It is a reality the FRG volunteers wanted made clear in the story. The spokeswoman repeatedly told me when these soldiers sign with with the national guard they are signing a check that may include their life. I felt the least I could do is report the honest and obvious truth to give this taking action story a real, honest and truthful reason for people to give if they want to. SHIUTAHHOT, I hope you can give to these soldiers. I know I will.

Why in your reporting would you state that "they may not come back"? This is very unprofessional for a news caster to say such a thing and worry family and loved ones whether thier loved one will return? Not only once did you state this in your reporting but deveral times! We support our troops and the missions they are trained for. But, to have a reporter try to put more drama into a bad situation for families is NOT appropriate at all. Our soldiers that represent this great nation and the families that have to support them through the diffult time apart. The remote possiblity of a loved one not returning to a loved one(s) is already known what a possible outcome could be. Spinning more negativity on the story was not appropriate by any means. I have 2 good friends going on this mission and have related concern how it was represented in the media. Noah Bond it's nice that you state that you are going to "follow these soldiers UNTIL they leave for war" is a real brave thing for you to do....NOT...why don't you "gunny up" and follow them into the situation you made it out to be and follow them into a red zone? To spin a negative story then post a comment on the board is terrible reporting. I will follow up on this to the editor's at ABC4 to state my dis-satisfaction about your story in person, you should be sitting behind a desk and not adding fear to a stressful situation. Terrible reporting! Thank you soldiers for your brave representation for your or great nation and we pray and believe that you will return as last time and un-harmed and pround of the significant contribution you did in time of war. You are truely hero's in our eye's and in our heart and soul know you will come back unharmed. Thank you all and bless you and all your loved ones for protecting us. GOD BLASS AMERICA!!!
