WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - ABC 4 is taking action for more than 60 Utah soldiers called to war.
The soldiers received less than a year notice, and might not get a proper send off.
It's not enough time for volunteers from the Family Readiness Group to raise enough money for a big send off.
The volunteers are asking ABC 4 to take action and help raise enough money and volunteers.
The Alpha Company of the second Battalion will leave their families behind to fight for their country this summer.
The soldiers will fly and maintain black hawk helicopters in combat as well as fly up to 11 troops at a time to dangerous missions. The soldiers know they may not come home.
Heather Brundle and soldier John soldier John Saulnier met in September. "I tried getting him to come out with me to go have a hamburger and he blew me off," said Brundle. Howver, they eventually connected and were engaged two months later.
The unexpected deployment pushed their marriage date up to April. "It's been a lot of work between us and our family and friends," said Brundle.
Family Readiness Group volunteers want to throw a special evening for soldiers like John and his fiancee.
"We want them to feel like there is nothing else, but them and this loved one and there's not a worry in the world this evening," said Family Readiness Group Volunteer Coordinator Elizabeth Balinsky.
It's one special night to say goodbye. "Just being able to get more memories," said John. "I just want to give her peace of mind, have her know that I'll be safe with what I would consider brothers and sisters," he continued.
Volunteers with the Family Readiness Group are asking for volunteer servers, caterers, money donations, and accommodations for 60 hotel rooms.
