SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Utah woman says a fence company swindled her and is now asking ABC 4 to take action.
Midwest Fence and Gates installed posts in Meresa Graham's yard about three months ago, but never finished the job and never gave her a refund.
She signed a contract with Midwest Fence in last October for almost $1,300. The company installed the posts and promised to return in two weeks to finish the job, but it never did. "I think it's ridiculous. They need to be doing good for their customers," said Graham.
The unfinished job means her dog can't run free.
Taking action for Meresa, ABC 4's Noah Bond knocked on Midwest Fence's door in West Jordan after my calls were not returned.
The business was closed, but he found a note posted on the front door. It reads, "Midwest Fence is closed. We regret to inform you that Midwest Fence is no longer able to continue business operations. If you are currently an existing client of Midwest Fence, you will receive a letter in the mail with a status update and instructions with options available to finish your current project. We apologize for this unfortunate turn of events for all involved."
"I've seen no letter. There's been no contact so I don't trust them," said Graham. She says Midwest Fence owes her about $800. She wants to hire another company to finish the job.
Bond will continue contacting Midwest Fence until it resolves all of Meresa's concerns. "I just want my money back," she said.
Meresa Graham is filing a complaint with Utah's Consumer Protection Agency. It's asking for other customers who have problems with Midwest Fence and Gates to file complaints as well. You can file a complaint by clicking on the link.
UPDATE: January 27, 2011
A Saratoga Springs woman asked ABC 4 to take action after the company she hired to build a fence was a no show. "Midwest Fence and Gates" stopped work three months ago after installing these posts.
We investigated and found the shop closed. After our story aired a company called "Quality Vinyl Fence and Gates" stepped forward.
We put the company in touch with Meresa Graham and today it finished the job.
