SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The place where most parents feel safe leaving their babies could actually be one of the most dangerous.

Taking Action 4 You, we are getting the word out about crib dangers.

A new study released Thursday in the journal 'Pediatrics' finds that 26 babies are hurt by a crib every day in the United States.

More than 9,500 babies go to the emergency room every year because of injuries they got in cribs, playpens and bassinets.

The most common injury happens when babies fall out of the crib because their heads are top-heavy.

Other problems include babies getting caught or suffocated.

The nineteen-year study also finds 94% of children who had to go to the hospital were treated and released.  4% were hurt seriously enough to be admitted to the hospital.  Nearly 2% of the infants died.
