American Fork, Utah (ABC 4 News)- When Jessica Wilkerson let her dog, Daisy, go out and play Sunday afternoon she thought the dog would be gone for just a few minutes. But what she didn't know was it would be the last time the pug would play by the park.
"I was just getting out of the shower and my stepfather started yelling my name, I ran out looking for my dog and there was a crowd around her with a cop," Jessica told ABC4 news on Tuesday, just two days after her dog was killed.
"They told me Daisy was dead," Jessica said while choking up.
Police believe the pug was run over by her neighbor, Patrick Durrant.
Durrant was apparently angry, investigators tell ABC4, after Daisy had pooped on his lawn, "He backed out of his driveway, saw the dog and crossed over into the other lane of traffic, ran her over then backed up and ran her over again," Jessica said.
Durrant was cited with two counts: animal cruelty and improper lane travel. It's up the City Attorney's Office to charge the 36-year-old driver but the Humane Society says that's not good enough.
"The courts need to make an example out of him and use the statute, charge him with a felony," Carl Arky with the Humane Society told ABC4 news.
Arky along with the organization is calling upon the County to charge Durrant with a felony because driving over a dog twice constitutes "torture" the Spokesperson continued.
As for Jessica, she doesn't care about the charges, she just is left to wonder about one thing, "I hope she didn't feel any pain."
