SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A fire at a pallet company on the west side Salt Lake City caused about $20,000 in damage on Monday, but also caused a heated exchange of words between business owners.

It was the third time fire crews were called out to Low Price Pallets in the past decade. Once, a fire causes more than $30,000 in damage to property and vehicles at Evans and Sons Automotive and Towing.

Steven Wells Evans, who owns Evans and Sons, said he is fed up, and wants something done about the pallet company owners.

Fire investigators say Monday's blaze was caused by pieces of a broken pallet that were left burning in a barrel. The fire spread to some nearby pallets, a building and a power line.

Tracy Woodard, who owns Salt Lake Mechanical and Towing was so fed up with the pallet company owners and the owners of the property that he got into a heated shouting match that seemed as though it might come to blows.

After numerous phone calls to police, fire officials and the Office of Business Licensing, ABC 4 discovered Low Price Pallets has no business license, no insurance and was burning illegally.  The Fire Prevention Bureau says a company has to have a special permit for outdoor burning.

Fire bosses say the pallet company will be issued several citations and that the case could possibly be turned over to the Salt Lake City Prosecutor for review to see if there are any criminal violations.
