SYRACUSE, Utah (ABC 4 News) Welcome Aboard! The Small Smiles Bookmobile is ready for all children to come and read, after ABC 4 News took action and got results.
ABC 4 first reported about the bookmobile a few weeks ago. It wasn't welcome at schools in the Davis District. ABC 4 set out to find out why. When we went to the district we found out it was because the bookmobile did not have a wheelchair lift, so there was no way for disabled children to get on board.
After our story aired, an ABC 4 viewer wanted to help. He donated a lift, and others donated the labor. Now, $80,000 later the lift is working!
We talked to the Davis School District and the bookmobile will now be allowed. Until school starts, the bookmobile will be at Lindavista Park in Syracuse every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. All children are invited to come, and it's free.
