We're talking snow in the forecast the next few days. You've probably seen the pictures coming out of Seattle. A snowstorm there is dumping more snow in a day than Seattle usually gets in a year! You need to be careful when watching a storm upstream because you can't always expect the same results downstream.
Our snow will likely begin during the afternoon in the Valley and continue through part of the evening. It will likely be a slow evening commute with the heaviest snow falling from Salt Lake City north and through our mountains. Here's the catch, while we expect all snow in the mountains off and on through the weekend the Valley will get rain much of the day Thursday and again on Friday.
The timing of the switch will have a huge impact on snowfall amounts but for now we're expecting between 2-4" of snow in the Valley by Thursday morning. The mountains will likely see several inches of snow each day through the weekend making for great skiing conditions Saturday and Sunday.
This is great news considering we're running about 30% of where we should be with regard to snowfall at this point in the season. We'll see how the storms play out into and through the weekend. What's most encouraging is the shift from a dominant area of high pressure to a westerly flow across the state allowing for storms to move in from the west.
